MOONING IN MONTANA

nus2022

Hello, ello, buffalo, good to see ya

Hey folks, back again back on the FM in the late AMs. Hollering to ya from Glendive, Montana — yes folks, here in Glendive we celebrate the little things. Such as tuna fish salad sandwiches, free beans and rice, and headwinds holding our hands — kinda like a child leash. Today was a heck of a ride day, coming from the sand, silt, mud and ash stone stratigraphy of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The Badlands are truly badass. Woof, let me tell ya.

Speaking of the park, now known Theodore Roosevelt National Park is the stolen land of the Arikara, Crow, Blackfeet, Gros Ventre, Chippewa, Cree, Sioux , and Rocky Boy tribal nations. We acknowledge that the park is a legacy of Native displacement and oppression.

We left around 6 am from the community center of Medora, which is a town of 127 that swells with the heartbeat of tourism during the heat heavy summers. Shade is often appreciated, but the fresh kick of wind that hops to your hairline can feel just the same as you’re riding a galloping stead — all foot-pedaled, of course. We were expecting 90 degrees over 70 miles but were given a cloud heavy day that cried some single tears around the same time I got my first flat. (First?) Why yes, later in the morning I struck out at bat and got two Xs on my scoreboard. Nevertheless, it was just a good chuckle and some merry help from Wolf, the craftiest and kindest bike mechanic in hands reach.

We wove our way around the rolling hills. Crackling with excitement, slowing with the air, snaking out on the gravel, and gliding into Glendive, our first host in Montana! Heehaw, heehaw, heck ya Montana!

Today’s SWEEP challenge theme, from the lovely Rocky and Martian, was Hannah Montana. We were given all the leeway of the TV show to the concept of living a double life. Let’s just say, Wolf and I’s Hannah Montany video went awry once we visited Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil museum that was all biblically explained. All the Jurassic bones were tied up in the narrative of creationism and Jesus, specifically the flood of Noah’s arc. Humans and dinosaurs were buds… Yikes.

Ta ta for now. I’m headed for the cushy trampoline matts to cradle my dehydrated dome piece. Peace and Love.

WHOA WHOA HEY! Have y’all checked out that waxing crescent, little finger pricker out there? It’s been lovely saying, “sweet dreams” to the setting goodnighter. Rock out, moon lovers.
